HWR-121 liquid epoxy resin is a high purity bisphenol A diglycidyl ether, which is unique in that it has a maximum epoxy equivalent of 176 grams/equivalent (170 grams/equivalent of chemically pure (chemically pure bisphenol A diglycidyl ether has an epoxy equivalent of 170 grams/equivalent). Because of its high purity and low polymer fraction content, epoxy resin ensures uniform properties, very low viscosity, low chlorine content and light color. Under certain curing conditions, this epoxy resin is able to exhibit better high temperature properties compared to standard bisphenol A epoxy resins.
HWR-121 epoxy resin is primarily used in applications such as fiber wrap molding, electronic laminates and encapsulation. A variety of curing agents can cure this epoxy resin at room temperature. The most commonly used curing agents are alicyclic polyamines, polyamides, amide-amines and modifications of these curing agents. The resin can also be temperature cured to improve certain properties such as chemical resistance and glass transition temperature. If anhydrides or catalytic curing agents are used, high temperature curing is required and a long post-cure time is needed to achieve the final properties.
